Pushing Daisies: Chuck’s Fashion Evolution

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

I am no fashionista. Clothes are the least of my interest, if you compare this with my TV obsession. But I do know a fabulous dress worn by an equally fabulous clothes-horse when I see one. And Chuck, in my book of styles, has always been a consistently  best-dressed TV character.

I had planned on doing an entry about this show’s wardrobe department before, because like everything about Pushing Daisies, wardrobe choices for each of the characters go very well with the whole story. The clothes make the show and the characters look really great on TV. And it’s this kind of thing that doesn’t escape the viewers’ critical eye. The style team behind this show ought to be commended and recognized for it.

But for now, I will zero in on Chuck’s wardrobe. Because I don’t know if you have noticed…her style has evolved in the past few episodes.

Chuck’s style used to be obviously inspired from the 40’s - 60’s era. In the first installments of the show, her look was very elegant and glamorous. A lot of people have said that her style reminded them of Audrey Hepburn and I say the same thing, too.

This red dress below is a favorite. It brings out her sweet, prim and delicate side yet at the same time, the fiery red color of the dress elicits sensuality and sex appeal.

In succeeding episodes, Chuck deviated from her glamorous look to become a flower child from 1969, with her hippie clothes and her messy hairstyle. And what’s with the pointy witch’s hat?

Is her evolution supposed to mean something?

What do you like better? Glamorous Charlotte or Hippie Chuck?

Pushing Daisies Nominated at Golden Satellite Awards

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

Is it awards season already? Fresh from posting about Pushing Daisies winning Best Family TV show yesterday, I opened my mailbox this morning and read that The Satellite Awards has just released its list of nominees for outstanding achievement in movies, TV and other media. And look who are on the list?

That’s three nominations! Hah!  Congratulations to Lee Pace, Anna Friel and the people behind Pushing Daisies. It’s too bad this award giving body isn’t giving an Ensemble Cast Award, because I’m confident the show would definitely make it to that list.

The Satellite Award is a recognition given by the International Press Academy, which was formed in the 90’s. The organization has over 200 members worldwide, in print, radio, television, cable and more recently, the internet. This body is actually a spin-off from HFPA (Hollywood Foreign Press Association) who is responsible for the Golden Globes.

The ceremony this year will be held on December 16. And, of course, I will be keeping tabs on whether or not PD wins anything.

And still some more recognition….(this show is just collecting it all!)

EW has opened a poll for TV buffs and you can easily cast your vote for the Best of TV - 2007. I just did one on Favorite New Show and at the time I made my vote, Pushing Daisies was leading by 46%, against Dirty Sexy Money, Samantha Who, Big Bang Theory and Back To You. To be fair though, the choices were limited and not nearly covering all the new shows we enjoy.

Pushing Daisies, Best Family TV Show: Also last Wednesday, Pushing Daisies was voted Best New TV Series by the Family Television Awards. The award giving body is organized by the Family Friendly Programming Forum, a brainchild of the Association of National Advertisers. It aims to give honors to prime time shows that gear towards wholesome programming. Chi McBride, Kristine Chenoweth and Lee Pace graced the event and had their red carpet interview. Chi Mcbride says Pushing Daisies is the kind of show that provides something different in the whole TV landscape, where a lot of it isn’t exactly family friendly.

Other winners include:
America Ferrera - Best Actress
Kyle Chandler - Best Actor
Ugly Betty - Best Comedy
Heroes - Best Drama
Zachary Levi - Favorite Newcomer

About Pushing Daisies

As its teasers say, Pushing Daisies is "nothing like you've seen on television". Besides being visually stimulating and audibly captivating, the story behind this whimsical TV series from ABC, is one that seems to jump out pages of a fairy tale. Created by Bryan Fuller, Pushing Daisies is hailed by critics as a commendable risk that may actually pay off. It has romance, tragedy, comedy, mystery and of course, lest we forget, pies…lots and lots of it.
