Anna Friel is TV’s Sexiest

Monday, May 12th, 2008

anna friel tv sexy.jpg A recent poll conducted by the Hallmark Channel in the UK from its viewers has shown that Anna Friel and David Tennant of Doctor Who are top choices for TV’s sexiest.

The survery, which had 1,600 participants, was done in order to see how important sex appeal is in keeping viewers tuned to their TV programs, with classifications like “charisma (38%), looking great (36%) and not playing by the rules (12%).

The survey revealed that — “one in five respondents felt that actually seeing any sex distracted them from their enjoyment of the plot”.

“Our ongoing research into what makes great gripping drama has revealed that a sexy male or female lead can make a real difference to the success of a new series. If you were creating the ideal on-screen TV couple it would arguably be David and Anna, but you wouldn’t want to see them doing anything that distracts from the plot!”

Other names that came on the list include Eva Longoria and Wentworth Miller.

Anna Friel: Marriage & Motherhood; Mother’s Day card from Pushing Daisies

Friday, May 9th, 2008

AnnaFrielALLSTAR_450x550.jpgIn an interview with In Style Magazine UK, Anna Friel, who is the cover girl for its July issue, confesses she’s not in a hurry to marry partner, actor David Thewlis, with whom she has a two-year old daughter named Gracie.

The couple, who shuttle between the UK and in LA to be nearer to Anna’s work commitments on Pushing Daisies, has been blissfully happy together and Anna says, “It just seems to work as it is right now and there doesn’t seem any point.”

Anna also speaks of her daughter with fondness and more than anything she says it is motherhood that makes her life complete. “When you’re a mother, life just changes. [Her daughter] is the most loving child ever. I just tell her how beautiful and lovely she is and how much Mummy loves her.”

Speaking of which, I of course would like to extend my Mother’s day greetings to every mother visiting this little website. ABC Network is also one in keeping with the yearly tradition, which happens every 2nd Sunday of May. They’re offering e-cards on the network’s site which features special “words of wisdom” and Mothers Day greetings from the cast of the Alphabet channel’s most successful programs like Brothers and Sisters and Desperate Housewives. In fact, they’ve got one e-card with Lily on it. Some of the concepts are cheesy but hey, it’s a special day for moms…grin and bear it!

Happy Mother’s Day!

Anna Friel has been…Californified?

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

chuck8.jpgOkay, that’s not even a word — Californified! Hah. But really, how would you call it?

It seems Anna Friel has been adapting to the LA way of life so much based on this article from Now Magazine UK, where Anna speaks of going under the knife and getting nipped and tucked. She has also talked about not being ready to have another child, not while Pushing Daisies is demanding so much from her.

Personally, I have no problem with one wanting to look their best, especially if its going to be a big part of their career.

And her career decision versus the choice she makes about her family is basically a choice we don’t really have a say on. It’s her career, obviously. And it’s her life.

I just don’t think these things need to be publicized, don’t you agree? As a fan, it’s turning me off when I read things like this about my favorite celebrities. I wish to find more substance in publicities like this and it’s just not showing that about her to me. What other projects is she working on aside from Pushing Daisies? I know she has Land of the Lost, but is there anything else? How’s the filming going for her? Why choose those projects? What’s she like at work? What has her career been like? Where can I read about those?

I have been reading so much about her LA life. Whether it’s a publicity stint and therefore half the truth, or whether it’s the real deal, I do wonder if the Brits are loving her more or is it just the opposite?

Or it that how way things are in the industry because publicities like these make the more buzz?

Kristin Chenoweth’s Dusty Springfield Biopic

Monday, May 5th, 2008

2.jpg Who would make a better Dusty Springfield, Kristin Chenoweth or Nicole Kidman?

According to an earlier report by The Hollywood Reporter, Kristin Chenoweth is set to star in the Dusty Springfield biopic produced by Universal Pictures. Jessica Sharzer is going to write the screenplay and at the same time direct the movie which will focus on the soul singer’s life in the 60’s and up to the point of making Dusty in Memphis.

But Variety reports there’s another Dusty Springfield biopic in the works. It will star Nicole Kidman and it will reunite her with Michael Cunningham, the writer for The Hours. Their movie will be produced by Fox 2000.

That’s two movies on Dusty Sprinfield! Which one do you think will fare better? Details to the movie production for both are still sketchy. Will they even come out at the same time?

ABOUT DUSTY

Dusty Sprinfield is a British singer who became one of the movers and shakers of the music industry in the 60’s. She is known for her throaty but sexy singing voice, quality only more familiarly identified with Black American soul singers then, and made famous the song “I Only Want to be with You”. Her other hits include: You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me, The Look of Love, Get Ready and Son of a Preacher Man.

Dusty moved to the United States a decade later and made the widely successful album, Dusty in Memphis.

Dusty is known in the industry as a perfectionist and seem to lead two different life as a timid Mary O’Brien (her real name, as she is Irish-Catholic) and as the pampered and indulgent Dusty Springfield. She has a history with drugs and alcohol abuse, but still maintained career longevity before succumbing to breast cancer in 1999.

After coming out strong in its season premiere in the UK, Pushing Daisies’ ratings has continue to drop week after week. The program has now aired at least four episodes in that part of the world.

However, industry observes say, the show’s performance overseas, with about 4 Million viewers weekly, is still up to par based on US TV import standards.

Yet, there are some expectations this show would be widely received since it features UK’s very own Anna Friel.

About Pushing Daisies

As its teasers say, Pushing Daisies is "nothing like you've seen on television". Besides being visually stimulating and audibly captivating, the story behind this whimsical TV series from ABC, is one that seems to jump out pages of a fairy tale. Created by Bryan Fuller, Pushing Daisies is hailed by critics as a commendable risk that may actually pay off. It has romance, tragedy, comedy, mystery and of course, lest we forget, pies…lots and lots of it.
