Anna Friel Amazon UK interview

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

Anna Friel

With the release of Pushing Daisies on video last Monday in the UK, Amazon sat down with the show’s female lead to discuss about her TV series…

You must be very excited about the success Pushing Daisies is having both in the US and here:

Anna Friel: I’m really proud of it! We have such a great time making it. I’m loving it.

How do you account for the show’s success?

AF: It’s nice for people to go home at the end of the day and see something uplifting, and yet it is still for the intelligent mind because there’s the procedural to work out.

How would describe your character Chuck?:

AF: Apart from being very funny, she holds on to every wonderful childlike quality there is, particularly now she has a second chance at life. She embraces every single thing in life and appreciates every beautiful sky and sunset and smile. She’s incredibly loving and an old romantic, but she’s also very intelligent because she reads, like, 100 books a day and speaks I don’t know how many languages and plays instruments. That said, she’s lived quite a sheltered life with two mad, eccentric aunts so she’s a mixture of everything. You can never not be surprised by Chuck.

How easy is the American accent for you?:

AF: I stay with the accent all day long when I’m filming. It makes thing much easier. To an English ear my American accent might sound perfect, but on the set I have my dialect coach and I get 10 or 12 notes a day about my pronunciation. Using the accent even between scenes is a discipline, it makes me concentrate that much harder at work – when I’m American I know I’m at work.

Do you have any similarities with Chuck?:

AF: My daughter has. I base quite a lot of it on Gracie. She’s two and a half now and she has that excitement and that glee. I’d like to think I’m similar to Chuck, too, although she’s a lot more positive than me and doesn’t worry. She isn’t as anxious as I am but her spirit has rubbed off on me – I play her 17 hours a day so it can’t help rub off.

The complete interview is here.

Olive Snook sings "The hills are alive…"

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

55139309451press625200854520PM …or she will at least have a "Sound of Music" moment, according to E!

Any idea if Kristin Chenoweth will be singing on Pushing Daisies again? I love Anna Friel, but Olive totally makes that show for me.

Right there with you, babe. And the awesome answer is yes! I’m hearing that Kristin C. will have her very own “Sound of Music” moment, singing on a hillside, after joining the…wait for it…nunnery! Told, ya: awesome.

If you’ve been following our spoiler posts for Season 2, then you must be aware that Olive will be hiking off to the nunnery in the first episodes. When I first learned of it, Sound of Music immediately came to mind. And wouldn’t you know it, they are actually doing something similar!

Everyone on the show is perhaps very aware of this woman’s awesome talent, so I am not surprise spoiler buzzes feature her more than the leading lady, Anna Friel’s Chuck. Which is why I think Kristin Chenoweth is going to be an Emmy shoo-in, agree with me? When the nominees are announced in July (and she’s doing the announcements by the way), I would expect her name there.

Pushing Daisies will be back in UK for Season 2

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

Inspite not doing well as expected on UK Television, the second season of Pushing Daisies will still air on ITV.

A network insider to ITV speaking to The Sun says: “It’s one of those shows that doesn’t necessarily get massive numbers but it’s good for the channel’s profile. It will again air in a peaktime slot.

What shows will Pushing Daisies be up against next season?

Tuesday, June 24th, 2008

pushingdaisies When Pushing Daisies returns next season, it will still air on the same day and time as before — Wednesdays at 8:00 PM. What shows is it going up against? What are its chances of winning more viewers over? Let’s take a look at Wednesday nights of the coming fall season:

The CW WEDNESDAY
8:00-9:00 PM
America’s Next Top Model (Returning Series)

America’s Next Top Model is running on its 11th Season. Viewers must be tired of the formula by now. However, the show is does infuse a few gimmicks here and there; some gimmicks are just for shock value, enough to keep the buzz afloat. But unless Tyra strips naked on the show itself…I don’t think Top Model will pose a big competition for Pushing Daisies throughout the season. Besides, viewers of Top Model is composed of a certain demographics only.

CBS WEDNESDAY
8:00-8:30 PM The New Adventures of Old Christine (Returning Series)
8:30-9:00 PM Project Gary (New Series)

Comedy’s on Wednesday nights? It usually doesn’t always work out, does it? But Old Christine is a heavy favorite and going on its fourth season this fall, the show has established a long following. Project Gary may take away a few viewers out of curiosity. But since it’s a freshman series, only time will tell if this one earns decent ratings and becomes a threat to Pushing Daisies.

FOX WEDNESDAY
8:00-9:00 PM
Bones (Returning Series)

I submit to the fact that Bones is big competition. I know that it has a small but very loyal fan base and as a TV series, Bones is actually well crafted but very much underrated. It can potentially be the one Pushing Daisies needs to beat. Bones also has the advantage of starting earlier than Pushing Daisies.

NBC WEDNESDAY
8:00-9:00 PM
Knight Rider (New Series)

Despite not being liked by most critics when its TV movie premiered last season, Knight Rider did manage to get 10Million in the ratings then. The cast and crew are currently working on making the show better as changes are integrated, in preparation for its big return in September. So, this is another big competition for Pushing Daisies.

Kristin Chenoweth to announce Emmy Nominees with Neil Patrick Harris

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

chenoweth emmy.jpgNews from ETOnline

“How I Met Your Mother” star NEIL PATRICK HARRIS and “Pushing Daisies”‘ KRISTIN CHENOWETH will be announcing the nominees for the 60th Primetime Emmy Awards, along with JOHN SHAFFNER, the chairman and CEO of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

The announcement takes place on Thursday, July 17 at 5:40 a.m. PDT at the TV Academy in North Hollywood, Calif. The Emmy awards will air on Sunday, Sept. 21 on ABC.

And following the announcement, Emmy watchers and fans automatically assume these two stars have been nominated. I’d be glad if this is the case. Really, really glad since Kristin and Neil are two actors whose characters have made my TV viewing a lot more interesting and bearable this season (in spite of the strike).

However, voting for nominees isn’t done until this Friday. So, until then, no one from the organizers know who the actual nominees are at this point.

Pushing Daisies Season 2 Spoilers for Episode 3

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

chenoweth.jpg

Details to the second season are slowly unveiling and I found this from a fan site similar to ours. Pushing Daisies Season 2 Episode 3 is still about Olive’s background mostly. The details are after the jump (for the benefit of those who would want to remain unspoiled) and it involves a lot more than secret agents!

Pushing Daisies is casting for Season 2

Monday, June 16th, 2008

Olive Snook.jpgRemember that spoiler news posted a few days back? It mentioned of Olive going off to the nunnery in order to let a secret remain a secret.

This week, the production is casting actors to play as nuns, a priest and a young Olive Snook and her parents. Yep, we’re getting an Olive flashback (Olive in pigtails - cute!) as well as a mummified nun (I wonder what this is about…)

Casting details below:

SISTER LARUE
30s to early 40s, female, all ethnicities, attractive, warm, open nun who has made a friend in Olive

FATHER ED
Mid 40s to early 50s, male, all ethnicities, attractive, a stoic man, he’s the Priest-in-Charge at the convent

HANSEL VON GETZ
40s, male, stocky but with sex appeal, thick German accent is an acclaimed Swiss chef who was disgraced in his former kitchen and sets up shop near the convent

SISTER MARIA CHRISTINA
30S, female, all ethnicities, gossipy young nun with a taste for forbidden.sptv050769

YOUNG OLIVE
Seen in flashback, she is Olive (Kristin Chenoweth) at 9 years old, all blonde hair and perfect pigtails.

MOTHER AND FATHER
Seen in flashbacks, they are Young Olive’s parents

MUMMIFIED NUN
50s, female, all ethnicities, mummified nun brought back to life.

I’m slowly forming an image of what the second season is going to look like and it’s gonna be beautiful, I know.

I’ve read even further somewhere that Olive will have an abusive set of parents who will scar her childhood. This is an unconfirmed detail though.

Kristen Chenoweth Round Up: Tony’s, Tinker Bell and Katie Holmes

Monday, June 16th, 2008

kristen chenoweth at the tony.jpgKristin Chenoweth was looking very lovely last night at the Tony’s where she served as presenter along with stars like Glenn Close, Richard Griffiths, Laura Linney, John Lithgow, Liza Minnelli, Mary-Louise Parker, Daniel Radcliffe, Brooke Shields and Marisa Tomei. I have not seen the awards show though…I’m wondering if there are clips of her from last night, somewhere.

Tinker Bell from Disney is set to be released direct on DVD and Blu Ray Disc in October, with Kristen lending her voice to one of the characters (Rosetta, a garden fairy). Here’s a sneak peek.

Katie Holmes, who is preparing her debut on Broadway, has received words of advice from the theater veteran saying the young actress needs to rest up before her big debut in the fall (October). “I would recommend her just to stay (healthy) and get a lot of good sleep and drink lots of water. It takes so much energy to be on stage seven days a week, so she needs a good night’s sleep everyday. But I’m sure she will do just fine.” | Source

About Pushing Daisies

As its teasers say, Pushing Daisies is "nothing like you've seen on television". Besides being visually stimulating and audibly captivating, the story behind this whimsical TV series from ABC, is one that seems to jump out pages of a fairy tale. Created by Bryan Fuller, Pushing Daisies is hailed by critics as a commendable risk that may actually pay off. It has romance, tragedy, comedy, mystery and of course, lest we forget, pies…lots and lots of it.
