Pushing Daisies Ending Season 2? Preparing for Season 3?

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

pushing daisies logo This sounds like really good news. It’s from the site SaveDaisies.Com, another movement formed by fans of the show who keeps sending emails and letters as well as seeds, flowers and pies to ABC executives.

Just got word from my source on PD and it’s some pretty good news:

“So, we got some news this AM. Keep in mind, this could very well change. At any moment. But as of now, we are ‘going down for the season’. Which means that they are planning on starting us back in May for Season 3.

If you can, please let the fans know that they SHOULDN’T stop sending things to ABC. The more that people speak out, the better the chances of us returning. If it gets too quiet, they will pull the plug b/f we get a chance to start season 3. ABC is listening to everyone. And EVERYONE knows of your site.”

What that means is that Season 2 will only be 13 episodes. When Pushing Daisies ends production on the 13th episode of the season 2, they will be done until May, when they will start production on Season 3. While this is great news, we still need to help save Pushing Daisies, and let ABC know, now more than ever, that we can’t live without this show!

What do you think? Does this mean Pushing Daisies will become a summer show? I would personally take a shorter season 2 and have a third season in the summer…than no show at all.

Please continue to SAVE PUSHING DAISIES!!!

Pushing Daisies S2 E6 "Oh, Oh, Oh It’s Magic!" Episode Teaser

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

We sadly do not have Pushing Daisies for the next two weeks. On November 12th, the show is pre-empted because of the CMA Awards. This week though, the election is expected to take much of TV airtime. As I understand it, there might not be an airing of Pushing Daisies and Dancing With The Stars will take over the slot for it tomorrow, after the election coverage.

From ABC’s viewpoint, putting a higher rated show next to the coverage is a better move than putting Pushing Daisies. After all, this business is about making money too.

But then if they have a change of heart and decides to air Pushing Daisies, this is the next episode coming up:

“Oh Oh Oh It’s Magic”

Episode Summary: Ned reluctantly agrees to help “The Great Herrmann” (guest star Fred Willard), a famed magician whose animal assistants are being mysteriously killed off. The magician has been a surrogate dad to Ned’s half-brothers Maurice and Ralston (Alex Miller, Graham Miller) ever since their father walked out on them. Meanwhile, Dwight Dixon (guest star Stephen Root) insinuates himself into the Aunts’ lives, but Lily is instantly suspicious of his motives,

Is Bryan Fuller Moving on to Heroes?

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

BryanFuller In case you haven’t heard, NBC has fired two of Heroes writer-producers the other day. They’ve been at the core of production since Season 1 and has left the show because of “creative differences” with the network bosses. The complete story of this is at Watching Heroes.

Now what does this have to do with Bryan Fuller, creator of Pushing Daisies?

I read something that raises the alarm bell for me today. Is Bryan Fuller getting back on board Heroes?  Kristin from E! Online reports:

I’ve just been told by reliable insiders at NBC that Heroes most likely will replace Jeph Loeb and Jesse Alexander with at least one new writer-producer, and one of the names being tossed around is Bryan Fuller, the creative genius who served as a consulting producer for the first half of the first season.

The upside? This would be nothing short of awesome, as Fuller’s Heroes episodes were some of the strongest ever. If anyone can save this show, he can.

The downside? One would assume this could only happen if Fuller’s current obligation, Pushing Daisies (which he created), does not get picked up, which would be a heart-breaking TV tragedy. Though perhaps he could do both Heroes and Daisies and double the awesomeness in our living rooms? A girl can dream…

On one hand, I’d feel very happy and delighted for him. Such a creative mind should not be left with nothing to do. He’s definitely an asset. On the other hand if this pushes through —- what now, Pushing Daisies?

Save Pushing Daisies! Buy Season 1 on Video

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008

pushing-daisies-complete-first-season-lee-pace-dvd-cover-art The video for Pushing Daisies was already released last September. Have you bought your copy?  I also think that this makes for a nice Christmas presents to friends and family this season. Are we going to help the show’s longevity by driving sales up and making plenty of purchases?

If you’re thinking of giving the video as presents, I’ve checked for a few deals online you might wanna consider —

  • Tower Records is selling the DVD set for $22.75 and the Blu Ray set for $25.99
  • Amazon is selling the DVD set at a slightly lower price $18.99 and the Blu Ray set is at $26.95
  • Best Buy is selling the DVD set for $24.99 and the Blu Ray set for $34.99. I was hoping it comes with other freebies like they do some of their DVD sets but I’m afraid this one is just your regular TV box set.
  • DeepDiscount DVD is selling the DVD for $21.32, Blu Ray set comes at $26.85
  • Circuit City has the DVD pegged at $19.99 and the Blu Ray is at $34.99

  • DVD Empire also has the DVD only, going for $25.32

Where Pushing Daisies Stands Right Now

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

pushing daisies logoThis will have to be copied word for word because it zeroes in on where the show exactly is and what you must do to help it…

Kristin of E! Online, who is a fan of the show and appeared on one episode in Season 1, wrote this in her column the day of  last week’s episode airing.

The facts are these:

Pushing Daisies needs your help.

Production on episode 13 of season two begins Monday, and that is the last episode currently ordered by ABC for this series. So far the Alphabet network has given no indication to producers that a full-season pickup is coming.

Yes, the Emmy-winning fairy tale could very well end in just a few weeks, and if that were the case, no one who loves good TV would live happily ever after.

Is the situation really as dire as it seems? And can anything be done to save Ned the Pie Maker and friends?
TV fans of the world, in this time of ongoing international turmoil, economic collapse and environmental wackiness, it is important that we come together to save the last best hope of miraculous broadcast television: Pushing Daisies.

TV was once a vast wasteland, but through ingenuity and small-screen spirit it has been turned into a flourishing paradise of awesome. However, if we begin to let go of revelations like Pushing Daisies on ABC, there is a very real threat to quality television as we know it. The wasteland may creep back and overtake all that is gracious and good in our living rooms every night. Join the fight against the scourge of bad TV, won’t you?

THE SITUATION

ABC has only picked up 13 episodes for the current second season, and show runner Bryan Fuller confirms to me that so far, his team has not received word of a pickup by ABC for a full season.

Despite widespread critical acclaim and fan adoration, ratings for season two are down, and Daisies is deep into the “Cancel” zone of TVbytheNumbers’ Renew-Cancel Index (which predicts the TV futures market based on a show’s 18-49 ratings as a proportion of its network’s 18-49 average). If you wanted to freak out now, that would be OK.

THE PLAN

So what can we, the fans, do to show our support and convince the powers that be at ABC to keep Daisies on the air?

* SIGN UP: Sign the Save Daises online petition.
* TUNE IN: Tonight, watch the show. Live. In your house. Look for the glowing box that receives pictures via bunny ears, a satellite or a coaxial cable coming out of the wall. (Everything else on TV at that time? Obama, Obama and then more Obama. So there’s no downside for you—you won’t miss any other show—and the upside is that the show’s prospects might perk up!) For that matter, email five of your friends right now and tell them to watch, especially if you happen to know anyone who has one of those magical Nielsen boxes.
* TURN ON: Go to ABC.com and play old episodes. If you have some spare change, download a few from iTunes. If Daisies brings in enough digital dime, that revenue might offset the on-air losses.
* REACH OUT: Contact ABC online or use the quaint ol’ post office to send a letter explaining, in your own passionate but polite words, why and how Daisies is the birdhouse in your soul. The address for ABC is 500 S. Buena Vista St., Burbank, CA 91521-4551.
* PUSH THOSE DAISIES: There are 23,000 species in the daisy family of flowers, including marigolds, coneflowers, sunflowers, chamomile, chrysanthemums, dahlias and zinnias. Send a bunch of your faves to ABC, or better yet, send flower seeds. They’re light and therefore cheap to ship. Seeds last for years and won’t go bad or go to waste, and they could be planted to grow into something beautiful in the spring. Don’t forget to include a note explaining that this is for the love of Daisies!

THE CHANCES

What are the chances of saving Daisies? I don’t know what ABC programming execs are thinking right now, but I do know that I wouldn’t be much of a Bryan Fuller fan if I didn’t believe in miracles and magic.

Yes, this is show business and not show friends.

Yes, multinational corporations tend to favor fat profits over creative indulgences.

And yes, the economy is the tank, so if this world ran on logic alone, ABC would surely chop up Daisies and sell the parts for scrap.

But there is more to life than filthy lucre. I have to believe that the people at Disney-ABC understand the power of enchantment, and that if magic were easy, everyone would do it. The cast and creators of Daisies are making magic and shutting them down would be a travesty at a time when we need all the hope and happiness we can get. Something as unique, beautiful and truly special as Pushing Daisies deserves a second chance.

It’s a nice way of putting it. There seems to be hope, but only that hope seems really small. What are the chances of a show when it’s been told to wrap up? I can’t recall any other program that has been told the same, only to be picked up by the network soon after.

Kristin Chenoweth  told some people they have been worried. Of course. Filming ends in two weeks for them if Episode 13 is the last of it. But the network must air all 13 right? Which means we have 8 more weeks or so, in order to enjoy this wonderful series.

And then after that? Goodbye forever?

About Pushing Daisies

As its teasers say, Pushing Daisies is "nothing like you've seen on television". Besides being visually stimulating and audibly captivating, the story behind this whimsical TV series from ABC, is one that seems to jump out pages of a fairy tale. Created by Bryan Fuller, Pushing Daisies is hailed by critics as a commendable risk that may actually pay off. It has romance, tragedy, comedy, mystery and of course, lest we forget, pies…lots and lots of it.
