Have you already seen this network ad by ABC? It’s the Fall TV 2008 Season Promo, with Lee, Anna and Digby representing Pushing Daisies. The ad’s music is Earth Wind and Fire’s September and I kinda like it!
Kristin Chenoweth was all undeniably so adorable announcing the nominees with Neil Patrick Harris last Thursday:
And watch her reaction after learning she also has been nominated for Best Supporting Actress, in this interview with E!:
THR also caught up with her last week, immediately after announcing the nominations: Although Kristin Chenoweth was immersed in Emmy nomination news as one of the announcers Thursday morning, she didn’t expect the biggest news of all — her nomination for supporting actress for “Pushing Daisies.” “It was a total shock,” she said. This is the actress’ first Emmy nom, and no one is more thrilled than her mother. “I talked to my mom, and she was crying and really proud. She’s been getting a lot of phone calls in Oklahoma.”
I’ve been trying to decide on whether or not I should pre-order the DVD or BluRay disc for Pushing Daisies. On one hand, I’m used to watching my favorite shows on DVD anywhere using a portable DVD player. The value of the disc on DVD is a lot more affordable, too. On the other hand, the show is really much better seen on an HDTV with a BluRay disc player. But then there’s only one spot in my house where I could do that…what if I want to watch the series while I’m out of town?
I don’t know where my decision would lean more. How will I fully enjoy the series? Will I rely on portability or aesthetics?
This article from THR may have convinced me a little bit, though.
On ABC’s “Pushing Daisies,” it’s the surreal nature of the narrative — about a man (Lee Pace) whose touch can temporarily bring people back from the dead — that gives production designer Michael Wylie and his to team license to explore the outer bounds of reality and taste on sets such as The Pie Hole, a pie shop with giant fake cherries hanging from the ceiling, topped by a faux crust roof with a suggestive slit in the middle. “We sit in the office, and we sort of giggle, and we throw stuff together that on another show we wouldn’t be allowed to do,” Wylie says. “If it looks good, we go with it, even if it’s a traditionally bad design choice. In one of the episodes, we created this candy store that was this Tiffany-box blue color and orange and gold and black and a bunch of things that I would never in a million years throw together in one room.”
What about you? Have you decided on pre-ordering a set yet?
Before Pushing Daisies, Bryan Fuller was at the helm of the TV series Dead Like Me (starring Ellen Muth, pictured) until it was prematurely canceled after just two seasons.
In April of last year, it was announced that the television program will have a movie version, more likely a direct-to-DVD release. Also, it was reported that some character replacements have to be done to it since not everyone from the original cast would be able to do the movie.
Mandy Patinkin, then casted as the original boss of the “reapers” in the TV series, begged off from the movie project. Henry Ian Cusick (Desmond on Lost) was tapped to play the new boss, Cameron Kane. Laura Harris, who played Daisy on the series, was also not able to do a movie because of a prior commitment. Her role has been taken over by Sarah Wynter, who ironically played Daisy’s sister in Season 2 of Dead Like Me.
The movie’s plot as outlined in Wikipedia:
Set two years after the series ended, some time during those two years Rube left the other reapers, whether for his retirement or for better co-workers it is unknown. The Reapers left meet a new head reaper, Cameron Kane (Henry Ian Cusick) a “slick business man who couldn’t care less about helping the newly dead,” and George (Ellen Muth) reconnects with her sister Reggie (Britt McKillip) when she has to reap her new (and secret) boyfriend, Hudson Hart’s (Jordan Hudyma) soul. Daisy (now played by Sarah Wynter) is attracted to Cameron, who helps her get a role in After the Fall. Daisy, in a bid to gain the leading role, injures the lead actress and due to the stress turns to alcohol, even for the performances.
And according to this source, the movie DVD release has been pushed back to 2009.
Long, long wait! The trailer has been up since last year:
Pushing Daisies Guest star Raul Esperza (who plays Alfredo Aldirisio in the episode Bittersweet), has been nominated for a Tony Award for “The Homecoming”. The announcements were made yesterday.

In an interview with In Style Magazine UK, Anna Friel, who is the cover girl for its July issue, confesses she’s not in a hurry to marry partner, actor David Thewlis, with whom she has a two-year old daughter named Gracie.
The couple, who shuttle between the UK and in LA to be nearer to Anna’s work commitments on Pushing Daisies, has been blissfully happy together and Anna says, “It just seems to work as it is right now and there doesn’t seem any point.”
Anna also speaks of her daughter with fondness and more than anything she says it is motherhood that makes her life complete. “When you’re a mother, life just changes. [Her daughter] is the most loving child ever. I just tell her how beautiful and lovely she is and how much Mummy loves her.”

Speaking of which, I of course would like to extend my Mother’s day greetings to every mother visiting this little website. ABC Network is also one in keeping with the yearly tradition, which happens every 2nd Sunday of May. They’re offering e-cards on the network’s site which features special “words of wisdom” and Mothers Day greetings from the cast of the Alphabet channel’s most successful programs like Brothers and Sisters and Desperate Housewives. In fact, they’ve got one e-card with Lily on it. Some of the concepts are cheesy but hey, it’s a special day for moms…grin and bear it!
Coming Soon has an exclusive clip from the fantasy movie, The Fall. I first wrote about it last February, when the movie was reported to be released in March. Dates have changed and the actual movie date is on May 9th.
Click on the photo to be redirected to the clip. You will love the little girl! And I now wonder…can she guest star on Pushing Daisies, please?
Following on my posts about guest wish list for Pushing Daisies, my next ideal choice would have to be Jane Leeves, who is more familiar to TV viewers as Daphne Moon on “Frasier”.
I was actually doing a marathon of Frasier this week, and for one talented actress, it would really be nice to have her back on television. I’m sure she’s been missed. Jane Leeves has been nominated more than once for her role as the psychic physical therapist of the Crane residence. So in matters relating to comedic timing and such, Jane Leeves has aced it.
Since I know she is a graceful dancer, why not have her character play against the Aunts? My imaginary plot? The Darling Mermaid Darlings used to be this girl group — think Spice Girls, only as synchronized swimmers. And Jane’s character is responsible for breaking them up!
Found some of these Pushing Daisies successories at this site and they’ve got a few really hilarious ideas.
What are successories? Well according to Wiki, these are motivational office decorations that usually serves to inspire office staff. Themes of successories usually center on teamwork, patience, perseverance, having goals and aspirations. Since then, successories have been spoofed and copied to adapt humorous contents.
So, now I’m looking for an ally for Ned. He has to have at least one or two friends outside his Pie Hole circle, right? Someone who is not necessarily chummy-chummy with him…I don’t mean they should start guy bonding (because that would have to be out of character for Ned.) But there should be one other guy who’s like in this similar frustrating romantic situation as he is.
The first person that came to my mind is none other than Matthew Broderick. If there’s anybody who can pick up on Ned’s quirks and issues, it would have to be him. Matthew’s got that same harmless, boyish quality Ned possess. He could easily draw an audience in because he has that likeability factor, much like Lee Pace.
What’s great about it is, there is also a naughty side to his boyish good looks. Remember Ferris Bueller?
I imagine him and Ned going on a couple of misadventures in a multi-episode guest appearance. Wouldn’t that be great, especially for someone as cooped out and restrained as Ned?
As its teasers say, Pushing Daisies is "nothing like you've seen on television". Besides being visually stimulating and audibly captivating, the story behind this whimsical TV series from ABC, is one that seems to jump out pages of a fairy tale. Created by Bryan Fuller, Pushing Daisies is hailed by critics as a commendable risk that may actually pay off. It has romance, tragedy, comedy, mystery and of course, lest we forget, pies…lots and lots of it.
