Kristin’s Birthday Bash, Anna’s Goal 2 and Lee Pace’s The Fall

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

lee pace the fall dvd Lotsa things from our favorite people today, catch up with me!

Kristin celebrated her 40th birthday last July. This site has a photo of her blowing the candles to her enormous birthday cake. Why does her cake say 29? And apparently, the birthday toast was delivered by her boyfriend (former?) Aaron Sorkin.

Anna has a new movie coming up. Well, she’s doing Land of the Lost, but Goal 2 is about to be released in theaters this week (August 29). Although, I’m pretty sure this is one of her old films, way before doing Pushing Daisies. Right?

Lee’s last movie,  The Fall, is coming to DVD in two weeks! (September 9th to be exact). The DVD cover art is as pictured. And I’m not so sure about the special features  but the disc is also available in BluRay release. It should maximize its spectacular visuals on a kick-ass home theater!

Lee Pace Photos: Soldier’s Girl

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

I was finally able to watch Lee Pace’s movie Soldier’s Girl a few days ago. I have to tell you, I’m a bit in awe. No, a lot in awe. He was so pretty! He played the part like a real lady (which means he was very good!) as Calpernia Adams, the transsexual who was in a relationship with a US Army.

The movie is based on a true story. This was the film that brought Lee the Breakthrough Award at the Gothams (independent film award organization).

Anyway, here are some screen caps I managed to capture in the video.

Does he not look like Desperate Housewives’ Felicity Huffman? Incidentally, she too played a transsexual in Transamerica.

I earlier posted a video of him from that film, which apparently has been removed now. But I found the trailer video:

Lee Pace Sings If I Didn’t Care

Thursday, August 7th, 2008

Just done with watching Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day with Frances McDormand, Amy Adams and Lee Pace. I liked everything about it — the costume, the set, the music, the quaint little story. Amy Adams is amazing here. She isn’t exactly the lead of the movie but it was all about her. Lee Pace did okay; wasn’t thrilled about the accent but he really did well playing Amy Adam’s character’s true love. He got the girl in the end. And Miss Pettigrew got her man, too.

This is the scene in which Lee Pace sang with Amy Adams:

Pushing Daisies Actors as Students

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

lee pace and anna friel With school starting in a couple of days, I thought it would be great to look at our favorite TV star’s educational background and see how they are as students. Are they geniuses in school? Slackers? Nerds? Popular guys? School bullies? Where did their interest lie and was it originally related to their jobs as actors now?

Kids look up to celebrities for many reasons, but seldom do fans like us take inspiration from these stars when it comes to school work. And why should we not? Maybe after reading this, we’d see these actors in a refreshingly  different light.

Lee Pace actually dropped out of high school for awhile in order to pursue acting at a local theater. But when he did finish his studies, he went on to study at Jilliard with a degree in Fine Arts.

Anna Friel had wanted a career as a barrister (lawyer) when she was younger and went to a local college where she eventually discovered a love for acting. She eventually landed a role on television in the UK and became a household name.

Kristin Chenoweth graduated magna cum laude in Musical Theater and also has an MBA degree in Opera from Oklahoma University. She was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. Her voice is also said to be near perfect pitch.

Chi McBride graduated high school at the age of 16 years old and then pursued music. He didn’t become an actor until he was about 30 years old.

Lee Pace’s Emmy Nomination Reaction

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

Entertainment Tonight was able to talk to Lee Pace hours after the announcement of his Emmy nomination for Best Actor comedy. As I understand, this interview was done on the set of Pushing Daisies which is currently filming episodes for the second season. Although, I am sensing Lee was quite uncomfortable in this one…and he looks a bit different, too don’t you think?

Lee Pace Video: Soldier’s Girl

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

I’ve never seen Soldier’s Girl, unfortunately. Though I know Lee Pace had to dress up like a girl in this movie, it didn’t occur to me to check how good or bad he’s pulled it off.

This video, uncovered by a fellow fan in The Pie Hole, will give those of us who haven’t seen the movie an idea of what Lee Pace was like on Soldier’s Girl:

You’d be surprised if this is the first time you’re watching him in this role:

A big slice of nice pie - Lee Pace Interview

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

normal_lpace_0807_03.jpg

As Pushing Daisies begins airing in Malaysia, here’s a press account of an interview the Malaysian writer did with actor Lee Pace…

A SUPPOSEDLY formal press interview with actor Lee Pace turns into an instantly friendly 20-minute chat – Pace is just that kind of guy.The American star of Pushing Daisies is in Sydney, Australia, in February when we meet. Dressed head to toe in black, the tall actor exudes warmth and a laidback personality that, at times, seems a little bewildered and uncomfortable at being the centre of attention.

Actually, if you want to know what Pace is like in person, all you have to is watch Pushing Daisies. Pace is just like the character he plays, Ned: a tad shy, very nice, and an all-round good guy.

“I can’t bring dead things back to life with a touch,” Pace points out one major difference. “(But) I would say he’s a lot like me actually.”

Well, it makes sense: Daisies creator Bryan Fuller wrote Ned with Pace in mind, after all.

Lee Pace Takes The Fall

Tuesday, May 27th, 2008

lee pace venice magazine.jpgFrom the Venice Magazine interview with Lee Pace…(excerpts only)
Venice Magazine spent an afternoon with the lanky Mr. Pace, where we discussed everything from working with a sassy five-year-old, to getting in touch with his feminine side.

The film takes place in two worlds: fantasy, and reality. Your character, Roy, is in a wheelchair and paralyzed in the reality portion of the film. I heard that everyone on the set thought you were really incapacitated. You look really buff in the movie, so how did you pull that off and stay in shape when you were supposed to be in a wheelchair?
I worked out on my day off. They really thought my name was Roy, too. I was in a hospital gown all the time. Also, that’s Eiko (Academy Award winning costume designer, Eiko Ishioka); she made me get more in shape - she told me I needed to lose weight. She didn’t have a time period for this film - she did this beautiful minimal thing ewith colors punctuate what was going on. I think that shot when we’re all three in the boat - one person is in yellow, one in green, and one is in red, and the colors were so rich.

Lee Pace isn’t afraid to take ‘The Fall’

Monday, May 19th, 2008

lee pace pushing daisies.jpg

LOS ANGELES - Near as Lee Pace can tell, the best way to scare audiences away is to tell them how good something is.

“I think people are really cautious about important movies,” said Pace, who stars in “The Fall,” opening Friday. “If you’re told, ‘There’s an important movie coming out,’ people would rather chew glass than go see it.”

Tall, dark, with piercing eyes and brows so thick they just may be able to shelter a small family in a blizzard — Pace looks like he should be in the movies. So, of course, he is best known as a TV star, in a show he also believes has suffered from too-precious reviews.

“I had the same thing on my show, ‘Pushing Daisies.’ There’s this kind of ‘very special TV show’ that people should go see,” he told AP Television late last month. “And there is kind of a backlash to it. People are not interested in seeing something that they’re told is good.”

While better known as the leading man with the magic touch on “Daisies,” Pace is now building a reputation for big-screen work, with three 2008 theatrical releases: Besides “The Fall,” this spring saw the release of the comedy “Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day,” with Frances McDormand and Amy Adams. This autumn, it’s the comedic thriller “Possession” with Sarah Michelle Gellar.

From director Tarsem Singh (“The Cell”), the lavish epic — and intimate character piece — about a paralyzed silent-film-era stuntman who befriends a young girl in the hospital, seems to have split critics into love-it or hate-it camps.

Not unusual for the Oklahoma-born, Texas-raised and Juilliard-educated Pace, who was working primarily in New York theater when he landed the role of a transgendered nightclub performer in the 2003 Showtime drama “Soldier’s Girl,” a role that earned him a Golden Globe nomination.

A stint on the widely praised but short-lived series “Wonderfalls” ultimately led him to the producers of “Pushing Daisies” — about a man whose touch can bring the dead back to life. The eye-filling dramedy earned strong critical notices when it debuted last fall, and earned Pace another Globe nomination. But it’s struggled to find a large viewership.
If Pace could bring someone back to life, who would it be?

“I hate this question,” he said, squirming, then breaking out into a big laugh. “I’m so bad at this question. I can’t think of anything funny enough, and I can’t think of anything kind of poignant enough. Anna’s (“Daisies” co-star Anna Friel) good. She’d say Ghandi or something. But I’d say my grandmother.”

About Pushing Daisies

As its teasers say, Pushing Daisies is "nothing like you've seen on television". Besides being visually stimulating and audibly captivating, the story behind this whimsical TV series from ABC, is one that seems to jump out pages of a fairy tale. Created by Bryan Fuller, Pushing Daisies is hailed by critics as a commendable risk that may actually pay off. It has romance, tragedy, comedy, mystery and of course, lest we forget, pies…lots and lots of it.
