Kristin’s Birthday Bash, Anna’s Goal 2 and Lee Pace’s The Fall

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

lee pace the fall dvd Lotsa things from our favorite people today, catch up with me!

Kristin celebrated her 40th birthday last July. This site has a photo of her blowing the candles to her enormous birthday cake. Why does her cake say 29? And apparently, the birthday toast was delivered by her boyfriend (former?) Aaron Sorkin.

Anna has a new movie coming up. Well, she’s doing Land of the Lost, but Goal 2 is about to be released in theaters this week (August 29). Although, I’m pretty sure this is one of her old films, way before doing Pushing Daisies. Right?

Lee’s last movie,  The Fall, is coming to DVD in two weeks! (September 9th to be exact). The DVD cover art is as pictured. And I’m not so sure about the special features  but the disc is also available in BluRay release. It should maximize its spectacular visuals on a kick-ass home theater!

A Lovely Way To Spend Christmas with Kristin Chenoweth

Monday, August 25th, 2008

kristininside2 This woman is really unstoppable. I wonder what activities she does when she takes a break and is unwinding? Because it looks to me like she’s into a lot of singing, even when she isn’t recording or working and performing. Does she treat singing and performing as work or play?

Anyway, after announcing plans of releasing an album for her most ardent gay fans, Kristin Chenoweth is also releasing a Christmas album this year! Released by Sony BMG, the album, A Lovely Way to Spend Christmast, will be available in stores by October 14th.

The track list covers various Christmas favorites and Chenoweth is accompanied by a full orchestra for this. With the help of her producers, she bring a different flavor to some of the songs as she attempts to do pop, country and many more genres.

Says, Chenoweth: “From the minute I signed with Sony Classical eight years ago, I wanted to record a Christmas album. I grew up listening to Barbra Streisand’s Christmas album, and that was such an inspiration to me. Christmas is my favorite holiday and I am blessed and excited to be able to do my own Christmas album.”

Track Listing:

  • I’ll Be Home For Christmas
  • Christmas Island
  • The Christmas Waltz
  • Do You Hear What I Hear?
  • Marshmallow Ride / Sleigh Ride
  • Sing
  • Silver Bells
  • Come On Ring Those Bells
  • What Child Is This?
  • Home On Christmas Day
  • Born On Christmas Day
  • Sleep Well Little Children / What A Wonderful World

Incidentally, the singer-actress will also be in a Christmas movie with Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn called Four Christmases. It will come to theaters right along the holidays.

Thursday, August 21st, 2008

Kristin Chenoweth at the Emmy Following her recognition from the gay education group, The Point Foundation, based in Los Angeles, Kristin Chenoweth announced plans she is coming up with an album that will make her gay fans very happy. The album will mostly consist of “camp anthems” like “The Man That Got Away,” “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy,” “Papa, Can You Hear Me?” an important Barbra Streisand gay favorite and “Going to the Chapel” which is a shout out to the same-sex marriage laws California state recently allowed.

Chenoweth tells Eonline:  “One of the make-up artists at (TV show) Pushing Daises was like, ‘What’s your next album gonna be?’ And I said, ‘I dunno.’ He was like, ‘How about For the Gays?’ I was like, ‘Genius!’ That is going to be the title of my next album - For the Gays.”

Kristin Chenoweth is an award winning Broadway star with a widely circulated gay following.

Pushing Daisies Actors as Students

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

lee pace and anna friel With school starting in a couple of days, I thought it would be great to look at our favorite TV star’s educational background and see how they are as students. Are they geniuses in school? Slackers? Nerds? Popular guys? School bullies? Where did their interest lie and was it originally related to their jobs as actors now?

Kids look up to celebrities for many reasons, but seldom do fans like us take inspiration from these stars when it comes to school work. And why should we not? Maybe after reading this, we’d see these actors in a refreshingly  different light.

Lee Pace actually dropped out of high school for awhile in order to pursue acting at a local theater. But when he did finish his studies, he went on to study at Jilliard with a degree in Fine Arts.

Anna Friel had wanted a career as a barrister (lawyer) when she was younger and went to a local college where she eventually discovered a love for acting. She eventually landed a role on television in the UK and became a household name.

Kristin Chenoweth graduated magna cum laude in Musical Theater and also has an MBA degree in Opera from Oklahoma University. She was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. Her voice is also said to be near perfect pitch.

Chi McBride graduated high school at the age of 16 years old and then pursued music. He didn’t become an actor until he was about 30 years old.

Olive Snook sings "The hills are alive…"

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

55139309451press625200854520PM …or she will at least have a "Sound of Music" moment, according to E!

Any idea if Kristin Chenoweth will be singing on Pushing Daisies again? I love Anna Friel, but Olive totally makes that show for me.

Right there with you, babe. And the awesome answer is yes! I’m hearing that Kristin C. will have her very own “Sound of Music” moment, singing on a hillside, after joining the…wait for it…nunnery! Told, ya: awesome.

If you’ve been following our spoiler posts for Season 2, then you must be aware that Olive will be hiking off to the nunnery in the first episodes. When I first learned of it, Sound of Music immediately came to mind. And wouldn’t you know it, they are actually doing something similar!

Everyone on the show is perhaps very aware of this woman’s awesome talent, so I am not surprise spoiler buzzes feature her more than the leading lady, Anna Friel’s Chuck. Which is why I think Kristin Chenoweth is going to be an Emmy shoo-in, agree with me? When the nominees are announced in July (and she’s doing the announcements by the way), I would expect her name there.

Kristin Chenoweth to announce Emmy Nominees with Neil Patrick Harris

Thursday, June 19th, 2008

chenoweth emmy.jpgNews from ETOnline

“How I Met Your Mother” star NEIL PATRICK HARRIS and “Pushing Daisies”‘ KRISTIN CHENOWETH will be announcing the nominees for the 60th Primetime Emmy Awards, along with JOHN SHAFFNER, the chairman and CEO of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.

The announcement takes place on Thursday, July 17 at 5:40 a.m. PDT at the TV Academy in North Hollywood, Calif. The Emmy awards will air on Sunday, Sept. 21 on ABC.

And following the announcement, Emmy watchers and fans automatically assume these two stars have been nominated. I’d be glad if this is the case. Really, really glad since Kristin and Neil are two actors whose characters have made my TV viewing a lot more interesting and bearable this season (in spite of the strike).

However, voting for nominees isn’t done until this Friday. So, until then, no one from the organizers know who the actual nominees are at this point.

Kristen Chenoweth Round Up: Tony’s, Tinker Bell and Katie Holmes

Monday, June 16th, 2008

kristen chenoweth at the tony.jpgKristin Chenoweth was looking very lovely last night at the Tony’s where she served as presenter along with stars like Glenn Close, Richard Griffiths, Laura Linney, John Lithgow, Liza Minnelli, Mary-Louise Parker, Daniel Radcliffe, Brooke Shields and Marisa Tomei. I have not seen the awards show though…I’m wondering if there are clips of her from last night, somewhere.

Tinker Bell from Disney is set to be released direct on DVD and Blu Ray Disc in October, with Kristen lending her voice to one of the characters (Rosetta, a garden fairy). Here’s a sneak peek.

Katie Holmes, who is preparing her debut on Broadway, has received words of advice from the theater veteran saying the young actress needs to rest up before her big debut in the fall (October). “I would recommend her just to stay (healthy) and get a lot of good sleep and drink lots of water. It takes so much energy to be on stage seven days a week, so she needs a good night’s sleep everyday. But I’m sure she will do just fine.” | Source

Emmy Buzz for Kristin Chenoweth

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

kristin_chenoweth_emmy_buzz.jpgPassing up on a roll for a Broadway production of Young Frankenstein to do a show on television, it seems Kristin Chenoweth has made the right choice. Her performance on Pushing Daisies, albeit the very short season, is slowly creating Emmy buzz, particularly her singing of Hopelessly Devoted To You in the series’ third episode.

And to be truthful about it — the woman deserves the honor!

Excerpts from TV Week:

“Bryan Fuller wanted to do it,” Ms. Chenoweth said of adding songs to the hour comedy-drama. “I said that it was OK with me, but only if it works within the episode. I didn’t want to sing just to sing. It had to match the scene, and the way they did ‘Hopelessly Devoted to You’ was really good. It was like Olive’s thoughts, her inner feelings, and it was appropriate. Also, the choreography was terrific.”

“Bryan Fuller’s script was just so unusual that I had to go for it,” she said. “This was a part that I wanted to play, and she was so funny and the show was so unusual. I’d never read anything like that. Also, I didn’t expect it to run, honestly. Something with that kind of quality usually doesn’t make it on television. Also, how often do you get to play in such a fantastic, out-of-this-world kind of atmosphere?”

[snipped]

Ms. Chenoweth is uniquely able to play both comic and ingénue roles. Olive is a character part, and that’s just fine by Ms. Chenoweth. “It’s true, she is. But listen, I’ve played Adelaide, not Sarah Brown, in ‘Guys and Dolls,’ and Laurey rather than Ado Annie in ‘Oklahoma,’ so yes, I’m lucky that way.”

As for getting an Emmy nomination, she would be thrilled. “I hope so, but we only did nine episodes [before the writers strike], so I hope people haven’t forgotten us. I think this show should be recognized. I’ve never seen anything quite like it on television.”

The full article.

Thanks to Sergio for the news tip.

And just to remind us once again of her remarkable Pushing Daisies performance, here’s a clip. I never tire of watching or listening to this!

Kristin Chenoweth Tony Awards Interview

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

Some quotes from the Kristin Chenoweth interview, where the talented actress spoke of winning her very first Tony Award nearly a decade ago.

kristin_chenoweth_tony_awardee.jpg
Photoed with Swoosie Kurtz and Ben Stiller from 1999 at the Tony’s. Swoosie is her current co-star on Pushing Daisies.

Which year did you win your first Tony?
My first and only win was in 1999 [Best Featured Actress in a Musical].

For which role and show?
It was for You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown . The role was Sally, Charlie Brown’s little sister.

What did you wear?
I wore a gorgeous pink Tommy Hilfiger dress that was tailor-made for me. That year, Gwyneth Paltrow wore a pink dress at the Oscars that I loved, so I wanted the same color. Plus, pink IS my signature color! Ha ha!

What was the first thing that ran through your mind when they said your name?
I was really hoping my dress was on straight, and my hair, too. You see, I changed wigs, too! I had a wig that LOOKED like my hair to save time. When I actually won, I was praying that my “bangs” weren’t at the nape of my neck.

Did you forget to thank anyone?
There’s no way you can remember everyone, but I think I got the most important ones in, although I did owe a shout out to Kim Grigsby, our conductor.

Did you cry?
I did cry a bit, but I really wanted to thank everyone from my heart, not from a list, so I had to pull it together and CONCENTRATE.

If you could relive that night, would you change anything?
I wouldn’t change ONE thing about that night. It was PERFECT in every way. My parents and my beloved voice teacher from Oklahoma were there, as well as my agents at the time, whom I adore still. I was beaming. And THANKFUL.

Did winning a Tony change your life? How?
The Tony changed my life because only New York people really knew about me until then. It opened up doors, which created great opportunities for me. I’m not big on awards, but the Tony is the most prestigious, in my humble opinion. (Not that I wouldn’t take a Grammy or an Oscar.)

About Pushing Daisies

As its teasers say, Pushing Daisies is "nothing like you've seen on television". Besides being visually stimulating and audibly captivating, the story behind this whimsical TV series from ABC, is one that seems to jump out pages of a fairy tale. Created by Bryan Fuller, Pushing Daisies is hailed by critics as a commendable risk that may actually pay off. It has romance, tragedy, comedy, mystery and of course, lest we forget, pies…lots and lots of it.
