Pushing Daisies Fan Videos

Friday, January 25th, 2008

pushing_daisiesx.jpgToday I’m all about exploring fan made Today I’m all about exploring fan made Pushing Daisies Videos at YouTube. There’s a certain amount of joy and satisfaction over finding these videos, because I somehow get an affirmation of how much well-liked and popular the show has become. Bottomline, any show wouldn’t last if not for the fans. Even as some of them may go overboard at times, it’s what keeps a TV series going.

Anyway, here are some of my choices for some well-made fan videos… First one on the charts is a video featuring Olive’s love for Ned. The song choice for this is aptly chosen, I couldn’t have picked a better song. And the clips included in this video are well put together. It easily tells the story of Olive’s unrequited love.

Next, is Can I Have A Kiss, featuring Chuck and Ned and the complicated situation they are in. Again, song choice for this video helped highlight the bind this couple must prevail. The scenes are also properly edited.

This next video is not just a creative idea, but also a funny. I would’ve never imagined using the song for Pushing Daises but the person who created this made it work.

Ahh, this is one of my favorite songs these days…and using it on the video? It just makes me feel love everywhere. And it makes me miss the show a lot more!!!

Lastly, I’m not familiar with the song in this video but I find myself smiling while watching.

I’m sure there are tons more fan vids out there, care to share some of yours?

Pushing Daisies and Wonderfalls Connection (and it’s not just because Bryan Fuller created it)

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

Untitled-2_1.jpgI was going over some episodes of Wonderfalls last weekend and particularly focused on the fifth episode, Crime Dog, where Lee Pace had a major participation in the story. For those who may be wondering, Wonderfalls is a short-lived series which was also created by Bryan Fuller, the man behind Pushing Daisies. And Lee played one of the supporting characters, Aaron, the older brother of Jaye, the story’s lead character. Lee didn’t have too many scenes on the whole of the show except for this particular episodes.

In Crime Dog, the characters, Jaye and Aaron, have to cross the Canadian border so they can bring back the family housekeeper, Yvette. She was someone they grew up with and is considered a part of the family. But due to problems with immigration, Yvette had to be deported. The brother and sister easily found her in Canada but they also discover that she is not what she claimed to be. Yvette, was in fact, Cindy, who comes from a well-to-do family, but she ran away twenty years ago, because her parents didn’t love her enough. When she arrived in America and worked as the housekeeper, she assumed the personality of Yvette, who was her family’s very own help in Canada.

Untitled_3.jpgIt didn’t dawn on me until I saw that episode again…. that Yvette was played by the same actress who was the killer, Madeline McLean, in Pushing Daisies’ Corpsicle. Among her other works include guest appearances on Big Love and voicing for one of the characters in the cartoons, My Life as A Teenage Robot. Audrey Wasilewski is one talented character actress. If anyone has seen her on Wonderfalls, I’m sure you would agree. Well, here is a clip from that series. Check out Lee’s sideburns, too!

By the way, Wonderfalls DVD is selling for $29.99 at Amazon.

More teaser from Pushing Daisies last…

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

normal_cast20015.jpgABC has come up with another teaser to tonight’s final episode, Corpsicle. Watching it made me suddenly feel that Christmas is definitely just around the corner; and also, it made me wish ours is a Christmas that is as lovely as the set of Pushing Daisies! Isn’t it just magical? It brings such a festive mood!

But at the same time, we all know this will be the last episode. *sniff*. Based on the teasers, it looks like we’re in for some of that….sniffling, as a hurting Chuck tells an apologetic Ned “I can’t look at you…” Aww, shucks. :(

Sad, sad, sad…:(

After this episode, ABC is planning on airing repeats of Pushing Daisies, beginning Dec. 26. Plus, sometime today, ABC will announce its latest schedule for January to April 2008.

One Last Episode from Pushing Daisies

Monday, December 10th, 2007

normal_cast20021.jpg

Are you dreading this week, the week of Pushing Daisies’ last run?

With nothing happening from the latest strike negotiations that failed last week, I’ve been hearing people say that new shows like our favorite will be very sorely affected. The long absence and the sudden hiatus might just kill the momentum. But I don’t especially buy this. I’m on a different plain altogether because the longer I wait for new episodes to come, the more I anticipate it, hence the more the momentum is piling up.

In the meantime, I’ve been pushing the show to my friends and family. My 10 year old boy is already a big, big fan and I’ve got a couple of friends hooked on it, too. What’s my pitch? Other than telling them of the fantastic story and the adorable characters, I also say there are only 12 episode to follow; the series is short and sweet. I mean, I might as well dwell on the positive to this strike, if there is any. Not every one has a firm idea how the writers’ strike affects the shows we watch, all they care is if they will be able to finish it right away. So far, for every 5 people I recommended this show to, at least one would decline and say it’s too cutesy for their taste. My simple statistic isn’t so bad, though, that’s 4 converted viewers to one, meaning — more viewers who will anticipate its return.

And of course, sites like ours will hopefully help sustain the momentum.

Anyway, the episode from two weeks ago left a cliff-hanger of sorts, with Ned finally confessing to Chuck that he “inavertedly, accidentally” killed her father. Here’s the that scene to refresh your memory, before we’ll finally know Chuck’s reaction to this revelation this Wednesday:

Monday, December 3rd, 2007

The award giving body is organized by the Family Friendly Programming Forum, a brainchild of the Association of National Advertisers. It aims to give honors to prime time shows that gear towards wholesome programming. Chi McBride, Kristine Chenoweth and Lee Pace graced the event and had their red carpet interview. Chi Mcbride says Pushing Daisies is the kind of show that provides something different in the whole TV landscape, where a lot of it isn’t exactly family friendly.

Ned & Chuck in the Media: Finally after several weeks, I found a fresh interview of Anna Friel and Lee Pace, courtesy of USA Today. The pair talked about how they get along in real life, their take on what it is like to kiss through plastic, the physical limitations between the characters, their sentiments about the strike or the fact that the show will end in a cliffhanger because of it…and of course, pies. Here’s an excerpt:

Q: What do you know about baking pies?
Pace: I’ve learned more than I ever thought I would about pies.
Friel: He can’t believe that in England we have fish pie.
Pace: They will make a pie out of anything.
Friel: You know why, though, Lee, because pies were invented for miners. When you were a miner, it was a pastry that kept it in a casing so the food wouldn’t get dirty.
Pace: Coal pie.
Friel: Yeah, coal pie. I’ll bring you some of that when I go to England.
Pace: Pies are very hard to make. I’m still on graham-cracker crust, filling it with whipped cream and Butterfingers. It’s very hard, but it’s not as difficult as touching something back to life.

Finally, over at the ABC site… guess who could have drawn out this SWF ad? :D

Pushing Daisies Preview: Smell of Success

Tuesday, November 20th, 2007

300px_Oscar_Vibenius.jpgWednesday’s episode marks the anticipated guest appearance of Paul Ruebens, who was earlier invited to portray the role of a traveling salesman but was eventually re-cast in the episode Smell of Success. His new character Oscar Vibenius is an olfactory expert who sniffs something very peculiar with our favorite girl, Chuck.

In an interview with Journal News, Paul Ruebens was said to have been given a hand at developing his character. So, he fashioned his hairstyle after Tim Burton. Fans of the show note that much of Pushing Daisies has this certain Burtonesque charm to it.

Of the re-cast in the show Ruebens says this: “I don’t think there’s some big ultra-secret behind it or anything. I think they just wanted to go a different way once they had already discussed it with me. And for me, the good news was there was another part that has turned out to be better.”

Oscar Vibenius will appear on a few more episodes.

Smell of Success is written by Scott Nimerfro with Lawrence Trilling as director. Guest stars include, Christopher Sieber as Napoleon LeNez, Tim Conlon as Chas Spielman and Sarah Jayne Jensen as Juanita Gray.

Episode Summary: When the assistant to renowned scent expert Napoleon LeNez (guest star Christopher Sieber) is found dead after a scratch ‘n’ sniff book explodes, Ned, Chuck and Emerson investigate whom the deadly missive was intended for. Meanwhile, Olive continues her campaign to get Aunts Lily and Vivian back in the swim of things.

And the preview promo below….

Hearing Chuck say the last line in the end is making me wish I can watch the episode already! It looks like another good one.

Pushing Daisies Preview: Bitches

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

normal_111234_4273_ful.jpg

Well, the show must go on….at least for three more episodes.

This week, Pushing Daisies is airing their sixth episode, and a highly anticipated one, if I may add. Bitch is written Chad Gomez Creasey & Dara Resnik Creasey and carries an interesting story line concerning dog breeders.

Episode summary: Ned, Chuck, Emerson, and Olive team up to solve a case in the murder of Harold Hundin (played by guest star Joel McHale), a well respected dog breeder whose prized dog, a bitch named Bubblegum, becomes the worlds first Coll-A-Dor-Russell-A-Poo. They learn from the momentarily revived Harold that his wife killed him. It’s only later they find that prime suspect Hallie (played by Jenny Wade) was not his only wife; Harold was a polygamist with four wives! Ned finds himself in an uncomfortable situation after his kiss with Olive is revealed to Chuck.

The promo video released last week sparked controversy since there is a scene with Olive and Ned naked (gasped!) together:

If this was one ploy to keep viewers anticipating with excitement, especially at a time when the show was on its one week break, then it worked. I, myself would like to know what that’s about!

And then here’s a minute’s worth of sneak peek, where everyone uses good old Digby as a way to get to the four wives and solve the mystery to this story:

Over the last few episodes, I’ve come to the realization that Pushing Daisies is sort of like the live-action version of the Hanna-Barbera cartoons, Scooby Doo, don’t you think so, too?

Digby is gonna win Best Dog Actor Award, with this episode, if there exist such one award giving body for pets!

Pushing Daises Preview: The Fun In The Funeral

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

Tomorrow’s third episode is written by Bryan Fuller and has a special guest star — it’s Kristin Dos Santos of Watch with Kristin, from E! She is, of course, a big, big fan of the show.

Episode Title: The Fun In The Funeral
Episode Summary: Another strange death at the Schatz Funeral Home leads Ned back to the scene where he brought Chuck back to life. Meanwhile, Olive unwittingly becomes the messenger in Chuck’s plan to bring a little sunshine into the lives of Aunts Lily and Vivian via some anti-depressant laced pies, on Pushing Daisies.

It would appear that Chuck still doesn’t know about the third rule to Ned’s powers, in that, when he fails to bring the dead person back to, well, being dead…another life is claimed to replace it. There goes the secret Ned is so afraid Chuck might find out. Eventually, Chuck could learn the truth about her father.

Here’s the video teaser for tomorrow night’s show:

Pushing Daisies Preview: Dummy

Wednesday, October 10th, 2007

Tonigh’s episode of Pushing Daisies is entitled Dummy. I have posted the synopsis of this earlier.

A teaser of Dummy is already up and the moment I saw it, I could not help but laugh at one of Chi McBride’s reaction (he plays Lee’s partner, private investigator, Emerson), I screen captured it:

Mwaahaha! If only that had a better screen resolution, it would make for a really funny wall paper! Anyway, if you missed the previews on television (ABC has been airing it in between shows), here is the video:

There was just something that confused me about the teasers though, when it was said “27 Million” watched it. Pushing Daisies’ actual ratings last Wednesday was somewhere around 12 Million.

Anyway, regardless…the fact of the matter is the premiere was strong and successful and it has beaten the competiting show. And the encore last Friday also garnered a very decent 4.26 million viewers.

Pushing Daisies’ Lee Pace on The View

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007

Well, I seldom get to watch The View that much and I can’t say I like the program. But for the sake of Lee Pace, I sat through this interview and got to know Ned a little bit better.

The View interview began with Barbara Walters telling Lee about the show’s great reviews. She asked whether or not Lee felt the abilities of his character was something he’d actually want in real life and Lee  answers by saying he enjoys working with the people behind the show and he lives the moral question in Pushing Daisies. The moral question according to him isn’t about death but is about life, and I quite did not get what he meant by it. (Ha-ha, I got the dumb.)

Whoppi asked about how long his character “can hold out”, since Ned’s never going to able to touch the one he loves and Lee says its not going to happen on  the show ever. But since the characters choose to be together and it’s an old fashioned kind of love, he also loves the idea behind it. Lee says:  “One of the things I appreciate from Pushing Daisies is that it’s a great fun world to be in.It’s like I can walk home and I can feel good about the job I do because it makes people happy.”

Here is the complete interview on video:

Incidentally, Lee was also briefly on Good Morning America Wednesday last week and mentions that the idea of Pushing Daisies sprung from him…sort of. You can view the clip here.

Pushing Daisies’ Kristin Chenoweth on Leno

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

I’m just finally catching Kristin’s visit on Leno at this time. She’s actually on TV now, as I’m writing this. I don’t really know Kristin’s work all that much and only recently got to know her, like months before I learned she was joining Pushing Daisies. I’m loving her already. I think she’s an amazing woman. And her new look, with the short her, suits her perfectly.

In the Leno interview, Kristin mimics Dolly Parton’s singing style, showing how really talented she is. She also tells Leno what Pushing Daisies is about, spewing the words in super speed (man, the woman can talk!).

Her visit on The Tonight Show was short but sweet.

Here’s the video I found on Youtube:

Pushing Daisies Starts Winning Streak

Monday, September 24th, 2007

The show has not even premiered yet since it will officially air the first episode on October 3 at 8 PM, but wouldn’t you know it, Pushing Daisies has already won it’s very first award! Well, sort of.

In an poll conducted by E!Online for the whole month of August, Pushing Daisies emerged as the most highly anticipated new TV series with 54% of the votes. And as you can see from the results, the rest of the shows are trailing behind. Potential viewers are responding warmly to this quirky series, which earlier, was predicted by naysayers as a show that might encounter some bumps finding an audience since the premise is idiosyncratic.

Perhaps the current wave Pushing Daisies is now receiving could be attributed to proper marketing and getting many TV critics to give Pushing Daisies two thumbs up also helped.

Incidentally, Watch With Kristin on E! is saying:

Pushing Daisies is without a doubt the best new series of the season.

So, how about a sneak peek, huh?

This video is from the first episode and runs for about 2 minutes, with Chuck learning from Ned what has actually happened to her (SPOILER ALERT!):

And some more winning news — just in case you miss an episode, or haven’t set your DVR’s and TIVO’s — you can still watch it online since ABC is also streaming the episodes on AOL on top of their on website, a day after the episode has aired. Four episode will be retained in batches, for a certain amount of time, thereafter.

About Pushing Daisies

As its teasers say, Pushing Daisies is "nothing like you've seen on television". Besides being visually stimulating and audibly captivating, the story behind this whimsical TV series from ABC, is one that seems to jump out pages of a fairy tale. Created by Bryan Fuller, Pushing Daisies is hailed by critics as a commendable risk that may actually pay off. It has romance, tragedy, comedy, mystery and of course, lest we forget, pies…lots and lots of it.
