Kristin Chenoweth’s Dusty Springfield Biopic
Who would make a better Dusty Springfield, Kristin Chenoweth or Nicole Kidman?
According to an earlier report by The Hollywood Reporter, Kristin Chenoweth is set to star in the Dusty Springfield biopic produced by Universal Pictures. Jessica Sharzer is going to write the screenplay and at the same time direct the movie which will focus on the soul singer’s life in the 60’s and up to the point of making Dusty in Memphis.
But Variety reports there’s another Dusty Springfield biopic in the works. It will star Nicole Kidman and it will reunite her with Michael Cunningham, the writer for The Hours. Their movie will be produced by Fox 2000.
That’s two movies on Dusty Sprinfield! Which one do you think will fare better? Details to the movie production for both are still sketchy. Will they even come out at the same time?
ABOUT DUSTY
Dusty Sprinfield is a British singer who became one of the movers and shakers of the music industry in the 60’s. She is known for her throaty but sexy singing voice, quality only more familiarly identified with Black American soul singers then, and made famous the song “I Only Want to be with You”. Her other hits include: You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me, The Look of Love, Get Ready and Son of a Preacher Man.
Dusty moved to the United States a decade later and made the widely successful album, Dusty in Memphis.
Dusty is known in the industry as a perfectionist and seem to lead two different life as a timid Mary O’Brien (her real name, as she is Irish-Catholic) and as the pampered and indulgent Dusty Springfield. She has a history with drugs and alcohol abuse, but still maintained career longevity before succumbing to breast cancer in 1999.
