Pushing Daisies in the UK: What is it up against?
One of the reasons why Pushing Daisies is highly anticipated in the UK, is because it stars their very own media darling, Anna Friel. Based on press releases, she’s been forever known as a soap opera star among the Brits and Pushing Daisies will be a chance for her to show this new side.
Pushing Daisies will be premiering in the UK on April 12, Saturday 9 PM at ITV 1. A repeat will be aired on the same channel Sunday afternoon. In the British TV Grid, the show is up against a well established series like Casualty, also airing at 9 PM on BBC. But Pushing Daisies has a strong lead in with Britain’s Got Talent.
Will this spell success for Anna? Will the show succeed in it’s time slot? Will the Brits welcome this with open arms?
Incidentally, here’s another story on Anna and Pushing Daisies from The Telegraph UK
‘I was very lucky,’ she explains. ‘I got offered about seven shows when I expressed an interest in television and then read another 15 – and this one screamed out loud. I liked its imagination and its humour and I thought the standard of writing was 10 times better than some of the other things I was reading. And I loved that [the heroine] was called Chuck. I thought, “I want to play a girl called Chuck.”’ As Friel says ‘Chuck’ she broadens her native Rochdale accent to make it sound like ‘Chook’. ‘I don’t like “Cherk”, as I have to say in American.’
