The Music of Pushing Daisies
Are you beginning to appreciate the whimsical music of Pushing Daisies?
It was originally composed for the show by Jim Dooley, who has worked on projects like Madagascar (yes, the animation), The Simpsons, TV shows What About Brian and The Contender. He also worked along side Hans Zimmer for the music of Gladiator and Pirates of the Caribbean.
But it was actually Blake Neely whom Barry Sonnenfeld originally thought for the project. And while he is responsible for the show’s opening scene, he was also instrumental for introducing Jim Dooley to the production. Neely says on his website:
“In May, 2007, I was asked by Barry Sonnenfeld to score his new pilot. It was being produced by Dan Jinks and Bruce Cohen, who I’d just worked with on “Traveler.” I went and watched “Daisies” with all of them and was so inspired that I immediately went home and wrote the six-minute opening. Unfortunately, I woke up the next morning and found myself buried in my other projects. So, I introduced them to Jim Dooley, who is now scoring the series. In September, the producers asked to license that opening music I had written and a few other spots in the pilot.”
